POCKETFUL OF WISHES
The Coins Keep Rolling In

Students from Marina Middle School in San Francisco which raised nearly $2,000 for Make-A-Wish.

Fifty Bay Area schools and organizations participated in our 2nd annual Pocketful of Wishes campaign this year, raising money from January through May to help fund wishes. Now that the campaign is over we are starting to see the impressive results. Although all the money hasn’t been counted, we have so far received over $18,000. Much of it was deposited into the Pocketful of Wishes coin boxes placed in each classroom, but significant money was also raised through bake sales, talent shows and dances. Garden Gate School reached its $2,000 fundraising goal and was rewarded by seeing the principal wearing a chicken suit all day.  To show our appreciation, our staff visited the four top fundraising schools and hosted Otis Spunkmeyer Cookie Parties for them. Over 2,400 cookies were individually wrapped and delivered to these schools which cumulatively raised over $10,000. Besides, Marina Middle School, shown above, the other schools receiving Otis Spunkmeyer cookies were:
  1. James Madison Elementary, San Leandro
  2. Brewer Island Elementary, Foster City
  3. Garden Gate Elementary School, Cupertino

“It was so gratifying visiting these schools and seeing how much the students were into this program,” said David Hatfield, Development Director. “Some of them knew wish children and were motivated by that, but many others just wanted to help sick kids. Their energy, creativity and especially their compassion was just amazing.”
