Purpose
The Young Professional Advisory Council (YPAC) is a significant resource to the Greater Bay Area Make-A-Wish Foundation, its Board of Directors and the children they serve. YPAC assists the Make-A-Wish Board, Executive Director, and Staff by acting as ambassadors for the Foundation through fundraising and advocacy activities. The Council is made up of approximately 20 members who are passionate about being active and philanthropic members of their community. The Council solicits gifts from individuals and organizations to help fulfill the mission of the Foundation to grant wishes for children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich their lives with hope, strength and joy.
Desired Industries and Skills
YPAC represents the diversity of the community it serves. We are currently seeking members with expertise in Technology, Bio-Tech, Banking, Retail, Graphic Design or Marketing/Public Relations.
Council Leadership and Appointments
YPAC is internally led by an appointed Chairperson, Co-Chairperson and committee leadership. Appointments are made through consensus of the Executive Director and current YPAC Chairperson and Co-Chairperson. The Chairperson presides at all YPAC meetings. The Co-Chairperson helps manage YPAC responsibilities and fills the role of the Chairperson when unavailable. The Chairperson and Co-Chairperson serve on the Board of Directors as non-voting members. New YPAC members are nominated and then approved by the Executive Director, YPAC Chairperson and Co-Chairperson. Other leadership opportunities are available for YPAC members as committees, tasks forces and special projects require.
Term of Office
YPAC members serve a two year term with the option to renew twice (not to exceed 6 years of service) at the pleasure of the Board of Directors. Leadership terms are one-year. Applications are made available through referrals in late Spring for terms starting in September.
Council Member Responsibilities
Each Council member is expected to support the Foundation in the following ways:
-Attend YPAC meetings held monthly at the Make-A-Wish offices excluding December & July.
-Contribute or successfully solicit $1,000 annually to the Foundation.
-Be available to the Board of Directors, Executive Director, and Staff for consultation, advice and possibly serve on appropriate ad hoc task forces in the Council member’s area of expertise.
-Council Members are also encouraged (but not required) to attend Board of Directors meetings, Foundation special events, attend wish trainings, speak on behalf of the Foundation at community events and refer potential wish children.
Foundation Responsibilities
The Foundation is committed to fully supporting and encouraging the efforts of the Young Professional Advisory Council. The Foundation communicates all Foundation activities on a consistent and thorough basis by providing monthly Executive reports, minutes to all Board meetings and e-newsletters. YPAC members receive special invitations to Foundation internal events and are provided with Foundation business cards as another tool to effectively serve as Make-A-Wish ambassadors.
